Guenivere Decena graduated Cum Laude and a civil service awardee at the College of Fine Arts, La Consolacion College, Bacolod in 2009. She started to practice art and community engagement through residency grants, both local and overseas, including Neo Emerging Artist Residency under Project Space Pilipinas (2011), a finalist in the Philippine Artist Residency Program, Paris (2012), the Southeast Asia Artist Group Exchange, Jogjakarta- Indonesia and Kuala Lumpur- Malaysia (2013), IILM Art Residency in New Delhi-India (2015), and Tropical Halo-Halo Residency & Exhibit under Kunst Kraftwerk, Leipzig-Germany (2023).
A multidisciplinary artist, Guen Decena’s practice moves between poetry and science, tracing the muted logic of interconnection. She approaches artmaking as both catharsis and contemplation, a way of turning inward while reflecting on being and becoming. A former Fine Arts educator at La Consolacion College, Bacolod (2022-2025), Decena now works full-time as an artist engaged in community-based project in Negros Occidental. She has exhibited widely across the Philippines, Switzerland, Malaysia and Germany including “Take Cover” (2018) and Fragile (2014).
